About Me

I am a Batik Artist. I first became inspired by Batik while in Malaysia and have been practising Batik Art for over 30 years.

I specialize in doing Batik on cotton & silk, including velour, & I particularly enjoy the fluidity, flexibility, unpredictability & crackle effect of the wax. I also love being creative with colour and the freedom of abstract designs. Much of my Batik is influenced by the colours and shapes of the local Yorkshire countryside. My cotton pictures are varied in design and theme and use a range of batik techniques. I also make batik ties & scarves which are each uniquely designed.

I am part of an artists collective called South Bank Studios, and have a studio in their space at Southlands Methodist Church in York. I am happy to discuss any aspect of my work and to discuss any special commissions.

I support the ‘Breast Friends York’ charity, a support group for people with a diagnosis of breast cancer, holding events where I sell my batik art in aid of this wonderful cause.

Breast Friends York is a peer support group dedicated to providing support and a safe, inclusive environment for those who have had a breast cancer diagnosis. Their mission is to support individuals throughout their cancer diagnosis, treatment, and beyond, creating a community of empowerment and understanding.
